Two Arkansas Teachers Receive Distinguished National Award

LITTLE ROCK — Two outstanding Arkansas teachers have been selected as winners of the distinguished Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

Vickie Logan, who teaches science at Parkview Arts Science Magnet High School in Little Rock, and Stephanie Muckelberg, who teaches math at Bald Knob Middle School, were among the 97 teachers honored nationwide for the award. A recognition ceremony is being held this week in Washington, D.C.

The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching is awarded annually to outstanding K-12 science and mathematics teachers from across the country. The winners are selected by a panel of distinguished scientists, mathematicians, and educators. Winners of this Presidential honor receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation.

Logan has 24 years experience as an educator and has taught Advanced Placement Biology at Parkview for the last nine years.  Muckelberg has taught seventh and eighth grade math for the last nine years at Bald Knob.
