In opening remarks, Dr. Kimbrell thanked Dr. Ben Mays for his seven years on the State Board. Today is Mays’ last meeting. He also praised the work of departing Teacher of the Year Kathy Powers and welcomed Kim Wilson the incoming ATOY who will serve as a non-voting SBE member starting in July.
Further, Dr. Kimbrell said he hopes to hear in the next couple of weeks from the USDOE that the flexibility request under No Child Left Behind will be approved. He described it as ambitious and achievable.
