Covenant Keepers
Covenant Keepers charter school is on the agenda today regarding its financial audit.
“I made the choice to clean things up and I did make loans to the school. I didn’t realize the interest was a state violation. I figured that out later on,” said school director Valerie Tatum.
Member Vicki Saviers asked for a recommendation from Dr. Kimbrell.
Kimbrell said despite the audit problem that scores have gone up and that the Arkansas Public School Resource Center is helping them. “We would recommend they be given a year probation,” Kimbrell said. He said Covenant Keepers can present more evidence at its time of renewal which is a year from now whether they should be allowed to continue.
Board Chairman Ben Mays said he was “amazed” that Tatum didn’t know about the law against “self-dealing” with schools.
Cooper moved to put the charter on probation until its renewal date next year. The motion passed without dissent.
