Teachers honored today for lessons in economics

Economics Arkansas is holding its 15th Annual Bessie B. Moore Arkansas Awards for Excellence in Teaching Economics luncheon today in Little Rock.

Fifteen educators will receive awards — six “Veterans,” who will receive $1,000 each, and nine “Newcomers,” who will each get $500.

The Veteran winners and their projects are:
Nancy Archer, Pulaski County School District, “The Economics of Recycling”
Dottie Sue Hill, Springdale School District, “Building Financial Literacy with the Stock Market Game”
Melody Key, Farmington School District, “School Helpers at Work”
Tamra Lambert, Bryant School District, “I’m Not a Busnessman: I’m a Business ‘Man’ ”
Deborah Shearer, Pulaski County Special School District, “Economics: The Future Begins Now”
Ann Taylor, Lincoln School District, “Monkeying Around with Economics”

And the Newcomers and their projects are:
Amanda Butler, Pulaski County Special School District, “Reading Between the Lines of the Economy”
Elisabeth Carter, Stuttgart School District, “Fish Food Factory”
Ashley Fitz Davis, Springdale School District, “Economics in Everyday Life”
Jennifer Graham, Springdale School District, “Dollar Sense”
Mary Ann Holifield, Paragould School District, “Financial Fitness for Life”
Teresa Jordan, Springdale School District, “Harp Hawk Zoo”
Sheryl D. Shepherd, Glen Rose School District, “Life in the Real World!”
Lisa Taylor, Springdale School District, “Arkansas Agriculture and Beyond”
Michelle Wallis, Springdale School District, “Multicultural Entrepreneurs in Arkansas”
