State Board tables LR charter aimed at dropouts
The Arkansas State Board of Education voted unanimously to table the SIATech Little Rock proposal for an open-enrollment, residential public charter school to be located within the Little Rock School District in Little Rock. The board would like the organization to work with Arkansas Department of Education staff to work through some additional issues, including waivers it had requested from state law, and return to the state board at a later date. New Education for the Workplace (NEWCorp) will serve a maximum 275 students in grades nine through 12. The focus is exclusively on dropout recovery, so educating those students who have previously dropped out of school. The Little Rock School District offered support to the opening of SIATech Little Rock.
