Proposed Gillett charter school denied

The Arkansas State Board of Education voted unanimously to deny the application of the Gillett Heritage Academy, a proposed open-enrollment public charter school to be located within the DeWitt School District in Gillett. Concerns expressed by the board members included concern over the ability of the school to offer the 38 units with such a small staff and enrollment and because the proposed program was duplicative of what is occurring already in the local schools. The Gillett Civic Group, Inc., proposed to prepare grade K-12 students to be more entrepreneurially minded in a school wGith a maximum enrollment of 450 students.
DeWitt School District and Dumas School District both opposed the opening of Gillett Heritage Academy.
