Dr. Laura Bednar to join ADE

Dr. Laura BednarDr. Laura Bednar, currently superintendent of the Stuttgart School District, will join the Arkansas Department of Education as assistant commissioner of learning services on Monday, April 19. “I knew that I would try to bring Laura on board at the department as soon as I had the opportunity to do so,” said Dr. Tom W. Kimbrell, Arkansas commissioner of education. “She is an outstanding educational leader whose focus has always been on helping students achieve their academic best.”
Prior to the superintendency, Dr. Bednar was a teacher and administrator in the Stuttgart School District for 13 years, and an administrator in the Pulaski County Special School District for five years. Bednar pursued her undergraduate degree at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. She holds a specialist degree in curriculum and instruction and a doctoral degree in education administration and supervision, both of which were received at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She is past-president of the Arkansas Association of Curriculum and Instruction Administrators, current secretary/treasurer of the Arkansas Association of School Administrators, has served on the Board of Directors of the Arkansas Association of Education Administrators and currently serves as vice-president of Economics Arkansas. She received the 2009 Region I Arkansas School Business Official of the Year Award and was also named as the Arkansas Curriculum and Instruction School Administrator of the Year in 2005.
Dr. Bednar replaces Dr. Alice Barnes Rose, who is retired this month due to personal obligations.
