A true loss
The Arkansas Department of Education joins the many Arkansans who are mourning the loss of former Senator Jodie Mahony, a true friend to public education. Many of the recent reforms for which Arkansas has received so much recognition are a direct result of the great knowledge, energy and political talent of Senator Mahony. Perhaps most notably, the reason all Arkansas high schools offer a minimum four Advanced Placement classes, invest in the professional development of AP teachers and cover the testing fee for all students so cost is not a hindrance to AP courses is Senator Mahony’s belief that all children should have access to a high level education regardless of their hometown or school.
We will miss Senator Mahony, and our thoughts are with his family.
